Dear IVF.net subscriber,

Here is your summary of this week's IVF news.

News

IVF news story The creation of ‘saviour siblings' is one of the most controversial uses of preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). This paper outlines and invites ethical discussion of an extension of this technology, namely, the creation of ‘saviour embryos' to serve as a source of stem cells to be used in potentially life-saving therapy for an existing child.

During the month of April till 1st week of May, 11 IVF cases were positive for Beta HCG. 6- 7 of them showed between 20 and 40 m IU Beta Hcg. 2 of them showed double rise of Beta HCG (3000 m IU) post 48 hours of the 1st Beta HCG test. Within a weeks time Beta HCG came down drastically. All were on Gestone 100 mg on alternate days and crinone 8% twice daily per vaginally and 90% patients on Aspirin 50 mg once daily. What can be the probable cause of such a development?

2 Assisted Hatching (Please still waiting) 03 May 2010 4
Good morning! I have two urgent questions! Please reply as soon as possible. 1. In our lab, we usually transfer 4 to 5 embryos. To do the assisted hatching i usually put all the embryos to be transferred in one drop and do the assisted hatching and wait around 30min to 1h for transfer. Is that correct, can i leave the embryo in the same drop (where i made the hatching) or is it necessary to move them to another plate after hatching? or to another drop in the same plate? 2. What is the perfect time needed between hatching and transfer? I do the hatching using laser, i do around 4 to 5 shots Thanks in advance,
andrea

Re: Assisted Hatching
You can apply after assisted hatching in the same plate but different drop and 30 min. is enough before transfer. Best regards.

Re: Assisted Hatching
Hi, Andrea you have not specified how much time you take for hatching? which media you use for hatching? whether you do it with lazer or with acid? whether you do partial zona drilling or complete zona drilling?

Re: Re: Assisted Hatching (Please still waiting)
I do the assisting using laser. For the time, i dont know exactly how long, but i guess im fast.
Andrea

Re: Assisted Hatching (Please still waiting)
Hi, You need to change media from handling medium (Hatching drop) to culture media and u should keep it back in the incubator if its going to be around half an hour before u transfer

Re: Distance learning IVF course with reasonable fees
A great course for distant learning is from University of bristol. It is starting from Sept 2010 and admissions are already started. It has reasonable fee and its a highly quality course.
