News: New data released on global ART availability
The latest report (the eighth since 1989) on worldwide availability and uptake of assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) shows continued growth in demand and progress towards fewer embryo implantations. The study, produced by the International Committee for Monitoring Assisted Reproductive Technology (ICMART) is based on figures from 1563 clinics in 53 countries and compiles all available data for the year 2002 (the latest available).

Re: Abnormal oocytes
Empty cumulus
From your description, it is hard to tell exactly what you are seeing. Can you identify empty zona pellucidas, or zona fragments after hyaluronidase use and stripping? I\'ve found that ooctyes may fracture during aspiration, despite careful control over the pump pressure, and that oocytes may indeed be intact when they are picked up out of the aspirate, but they have either degenerated by the time stripping takes place, or the stripping destroys the oocytes within the fractured zonas. If zonas are being fractured at retrieval, there could be a pressure problem with the aspiration pump, or the pump pressure being increased to pull difficult follicles, a needle problem, e.g. wrong size needle by mistake, or bad quality control on the needle tip. I see broken zonas on occasion, but when there are a number of them all of a sudden, then I check the system from start - needles, tubing, aspiration pump - to finish - everything in the laboratory that is used to pipette the oocytes and remove hyaluronidase, as you are doing, no matter.

Re: Assisted hatching
AH
Hi, I do Laser Assisted hatching on day 3 or day 4, it works very well. Its very difficult to do AH on Day 5 expanced blastocyst. I always perform assisted hatching 30 minutes before embryo transfer. All the best. Thomas
