News: Worse health for IVF twins but no harm in embryo freezing
Two studies have provided an insight into the health implications of using assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs). The first finds that twins conceived by ART are more likely to be born preterm, be of low birthweight and to be 60 per cent more likely to be admitted into neonatal intensive care. The second finds that embryos frozen shortly after cell division had begun are no more likely to lead to premature or underweight birth than fresh embryos.

Re: Lab cleaning?
We like to use 70% ETOH for the first cleaning, then a re-cleaning with a quaternary ammonium based cleaners. (0.1-2.0% in water). This is followed by a sterile DI water rinse with a final rinse with 6% H202 in sterile DI water. The last rinse will also disinfect and leave only water and oxygen.

Re: Lab cleaning?
Sameer, The best, cheapest and the latest is to clean the incubators with H202. There are other products like Fertspray used in cleaning the incubators. Do join the ivf forum and you will be able to learn more about cleaning the incubators.

Re: Premix
Premix not an option for Heracell
Hi. You cant use premixed gas for 100% CO2 incubator like Heracell. You would have to purchase a O2 control technology to be incorporated into the CO2 incubator. Even if you have the O2 control, you can't use premix gas. You have to use CO2 and pure nitrogen gasses to displace the atmospheric oxygen concentration (ie:20% ATM). That's how it works for a low O2 concentration. But I doubt you can purchase an O2 control for your current CO2 incubator. You would have to purchase a brand new one and order a separate O2 control and the engineers will incorporate it for you. Hope this helps.

Re: ivf
Not that I think this discussion can accomplish much; but how many failed cycles are we talking about and has your clinic had success in the past?

If you\'ve been having positive pregnancy tests but no fetal hearts?

Fert rates of "up to" 80% aren't particularly high, in fact I'd suggest that's about average for ICSI with ejaculated sperm, and IVF. Good embryo quality I feel used to be based on the numbers of 8, 9, 10 cells on D3, and now on the numbers of good blastocysts on D5.

When looking at culture conditions that might have changed, look for changes in batch dates from suppliers for media AND plasticware that might have made a difference.

Re: ivf
To get good result in IVF is multifactorial. Quality and grade of embryos that you have transfered in the patients, patient's endometrium thickness (triple line) and its vascularity, ET technique, post ET patient supportive medicine, your lab quality control, Patient's age and hormonal level, in which stage you transfer your embryo, two cell, four cell, eight cell or blastocyst. Your embryo loading technique, type of ET catheter...
