The first baby to be screened for alterations in the breast cancer-causing gene, BRCA1, was born last week. The child was at risk from inheriting the gene from her father, who has women in three generations of his family who have been diagnosed with breast caner in their twenties as a result of inheriting the defective gene.

Could anyone please explain what is meant by motility index and how is it calculated?. Can it also be done while doing human sperm analysis by visual method or is it only applicable to CASA analysis?. What is the cut off limits of motility index for IVF and ICSI?. Also what is its significance in patient selection for IVF and ICSI? Thanks in advance.

Re: Cook media correct use
After denuding oocytes for ICSI I prefer to keep in Fertilisation media, and ICSI is also done using fertilisation media (minimal exposure during ICSI precedure). At a time only 4 to 5 oocytes are loaded in ICSI dish, so that there is no risk of long exposure. Post ICSI the cleavage media is used to culture the embryos.
