1 polar body fragmantation 04 June 2008 50 1
Could someone tell me why do I frequently get polar body fragmentation before IVF? Am I too agressive when denuding oocytes? Is it the stimulation protocol? Or unapropriate lab conditions? Thank you.
andreea

Re: Fragmentation
Possibly there is some toxicity in the envionment in which the oocyte/embryos are grown. it could come via solids (culture ware), liquids (media) and gas, check them all all the best

Re: I.V.F -FAILURE
Most of the times IVF/ICSI fails because of over-exposure of oocytes/embryos. week oocytes are the ones which have a reduced capacity to to heal after the damage which occurs during in-vitro exposure.

Re: Disinfection solution
7X and Barricide seem to be safe for the egg retrieval but have limited disinfection power. There is a new product called Tristel Life which is specifically for the IVF clinic and one of the products, LifeFoam, is specifically designed for the disinfection of the Ultrasound probe. Best regards,
Astrid Haeber Tristel

Re: polar body fragmantation
I've got no references handy to quote from but anecdotally, MII eggs can have their polar body appear in a variety of shapes (big, small, squashed, round...) and also fragmented (along with other bits and pieces in the PV space).

Those that appear to be two perfectly shaped polar bodies could very well be, but what I do know is those eggs very rarely do well.

Bad denuding technique is reflected more in lots of empty zona eggs.
Simon Aiken
